Steel, Platinum, Gold: Breitling's Three-Way Salute to a British Icon

Few automobiles carry the cultural weight of the Aston Martin DB5. Introduced in 1963, it became a defining symbol of British design and, thanks to its starring role in Goldfinger and Thunderball, one of the most recognizable cars in film history.

Now, Breitling has paired with Aston Martin to honor that legacy with a new limited-edition watch collection: the Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 Tribute to Aston Martin DB5. 

A Shared History On-Screen

The collaboration isn't just a branding exercise — it revives a genuine piece of shared history. In the 1965 Bond film Thunderball, Sean Connery wore a modified Breitling Top Time watch fitted with a Geiger counter by Q Branch, marking the first true gadget watch in the Bond franchise.

That same film featured the silver birch DB5, linking both brands to one unforgettable cinematic moment. 

Three Editions, One Design Language

The new collection consists of three variants: an all-steel model, a steel version with a platinum bezel, and a higher-end edition in full 18K red gold. Each model features a cushion-shaped case with subtle Art Deco grooves and pump pushers, giving the pieces an unmistakably vintage 1960s character. 

Design details throughout draw directly from the DB5's cabin. Wood-inlayed details, hand-colored gradient leather straps, and refined dial executions echo the interiors of the classic grand tourer, aiming to recreate the sensory experience of sitting behind the wheel rather than simply slapping a logo on a dial. 

Engineering Under the Hood

Beneath the vintage styling sits thoroughly modern engineering. The watches are powered by the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, a COSC-certified chronograph movement with column-wheel architecture, a vertical clutch, and a 70-hour power reserve.

Turn the watch over, and the movement is visible through an open sapphire-crystal caseback, finished with a dedicated Aston Martin–engraved rotor in either rhodium plating or 18k red gold, depending on the edition. 

Rarity and Pricing

True to Breitling's collector-focused approach, each edition is produced in strictly limited numbers. According to official pricing, the steel edition retails at approximately CHF 9,950 and is limited to 1,022 pieces, the steel-and-platinum version costs approximately CHF 15,500 with 315 pieces made, and the red gold edition is priced at approximately CHF 39,500 with just 250 pieces produced.
