Extolled as the 122nd wealthiest man in the world, fashion designer Ralph Lauren, was born as Ralph Lifshitz on October 14, 1939, to a Jewish immigrant working-class couple, Fraydl and Frank Lifshitz in Bronx, New York.

Youngest of four children, Ralph Lifshitz, started working after school at the age of 12, selling hand-made ties to his fellow-mates at school. Constant teasing by his schoolmates because of his last name “Lifshitz”, compelled Ralph to change his name to Ralph Lauren and has been known by this name since the age of 16.
