Who made the first mobile call in India?
The first mobile call in India was made by the erstwhile Chief Minister of West Bengal, Jyoti Basu, and the then Union Telecom Minister Sukh Ram on July 31, 1995, using Nokia’s earliest mobile phones. The call was made on the network of MobileNet service, which was a joint venture between India’s B.K. Modi Group and Australian telecom company Telstra. The call inaugurated the network of MobileNet service in Calcutta.
