Fastest to ₹500 Crore: Indian Cinema's Record-Breaking Blockbusters
Not long ago, ₹500 crore was a lifetime dream for an Indian film. Today, the biggest releases cross that mark in a single weekend. The fastest have done it in just three days at the worldwide box office.
Here is a look at the films that reached ₹500 crore quickest, and what their speed says about Indian cinema now. All figures below are worldwide gross collections, which include overseas earnings.
The three-day record-breakers
Four films share the top spot, each reaching ₹500 crore worldwide in three days.
- Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge (2026) is the newest member. Ranveer Singh's spy sequel crossed about ₹501 crore on its third day, according to The Week. Some trackers put it at four days, depending on how preview shows are counted.
- Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024) opened with a staggering ₹294 crore worldwide on day one. Allu Arjun's film crossed ₹500 crore by its third day, as DT Next reported.
- RRR (2022), S.S. Rajamouli's period action epic, matched the three-day mark and went on to global fame, including an Oscar for the song "Naatu Naatu".
- Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) set the benchmark first. Nearly a decade later, it still sits alongside the newest blockbusters.
Close behind: four to six days

Day counts for the four-day films are from The Week. Jawan and Pathaan made 2023 Shah Rukh Khan's comeback year, with Pathaan crossing ₹500 crore in five days. Ranbir Kapoor's Animal reached the mark in six days. KGF Chapter 2, Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD show how South Indian films have become all-India events.
Why films are getting there faster
Three things explain the speed. Big films now release in several languages at once, so a Telugu or Kannada blockbuster also fills theatres in the Hindi belt. Higher ticket prices, especially for premium formats, push collections up quickly. And the overseas market, from the Gulf to North America, adds a large share in the first weekend.
The takeaway: ₹500 crore is no longer the finish line but an opening-weekend test. With Dhurandhar 2 joining the three-day club in 2026, the next record may well be a two-day ₹500 crore.
Disclaimer: Box office figures vary between trackers and studios, mainly because of how preview shows are counted. Treat day counts as approximate.
